We are at a stage where our next generation might have to fight for clean water, land, and air. We can sense it coming. The pollution, floods, heatwaves, and regular storms are announcing it loud. One of the most common sources of pollution is plastic. Leave plastic bags , we are contributing to plastic waste in a thousand ways and one of the most unnoticeable ways of generating plastic waste is using sanitary pads.
Every month we get periods for 5 to 7 days. Every day we use 3 to 5 pads so, every cycle we use around 15 to 20 pads. Every year we use around 180- 200 pads. And imagine the number of pads an individual uses in their lifetime. The most shocking fact is that 1 pad takes about 500 to 800 years to decompose. These pads and tampons contain plastic and are not sustainable. We at the individual level can reduce pollution, because it clearly indicates that our period pads contribute a lot when it comes to pollution.
