How proteins are important for your skin?

When the issue is inside, expensive skincare, spa treatments, and home cures may not actually help your skin. Our skin needs sustenance just like our other bodily organs do. Eating a diet rich in nutrients and with a good balance promotes healthy, beautiful skin and delays the onset of ageing. That’s why the importance of food for healthy skin can’t be ignored. Our bodily cells are formed of protein, which is one of the many nutrients that are available. A lack of protein in the body can cause red, flaky, swollen skin that is depigmented, leaving it dull and dry.

Food For Healthy Skin: Eat good Fats and proteins

Most people are now aware of the need for good fats, especially omega-3 fatty acids, for supple, radiant skin. We eat selenium-rich chia seeds, sprinkle extra virgin olive oil on our salads, and add vitamin E-rich avocado to our smoothies. While the advantages of healthy fats for improving attractiveness are undeniable, protein is another macronutrient that plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of our skin. In truth, protein has several advantages for our hair, skin, and even gut health, so they shouldn't be undervalued.

How does proteins help?

Given that protein is one of the primary components of skin tissue, it should come as no surprise that sufficient intake of this macronutrient is necessary for supple, healthy skin. However, the ideal protein source for you (and your skin!) will ultimately rely on your individual dietary needs, preferences, ethics, and/or intolerances and allergies. It's also crucial to remember that not all protein sources are created equal and that vegan protein sources and animal protein sources have quite different nutritional profiles.

Some of the protein rich food for healthy skin are:

  • Eggs
  • Plain greek yoghourt
  • Almond
  • Tofu
  • Lentils
  • Walnuts

But maintaining a balanced mindset is the most crucial thing to keep in mind when it comes to protein (as well as fat!). There is no need to stop eating meat if you want to enhance your gut health because both are crucial for our general health, hormones, neurotransmitters, and gut health. Simply consume it in moderation and combine it with plant meals high in fibre to nourish your gut's beneficial bacteria and boost your immune system and metabolic health. It’s important to talk to a dermatologist to know the root cause of your skin issues or nutritionist to understand the right nutritional requirements.
