You are in your 20s and going to the doctor without any problem for a preventive health checkup is definitely not on your priority list right now. Even in your 20s, having regular checkups go a long way toward preventing yourself from various diseases. Today, we will discuss the tests that you need to do before the age of 30.
1. A weight check:
No matter how much we hate it. It's not about ideal weight but being within an optimal weight range for your height, as being above this range can be a risk factor for many future illnesses.
2. Blood pressure:
It's a very simple check, a very simple measure which is inexpensive, quick and easily available. If the blood pressure is around 120/80, then once a year check up is good enough. If, however, you have a continuous high blood pressure then you need to see your physician. Steady normal blood pressure is a fair indication of good health of your heart, kidney and eyes.
3. Cholesterol profile:
This is done through a blood test, especially for those who have a strong family history of diabetes, blood pressure, hypertension, or heart disease. A cholesterol profile check is also advised for adolescents.
4. Blood sugar check:
If you have a family history of diabetes or you are suffering from obesity or PCOS, you should keep your blood sugar in check.
5. Pelvic examination and pap smear test:
It is uncomfortable and you might think about skipping this part, but it’s very important for a healthy reproductive system.Pap smear is an internal examination, where the fluid is collected from the mouth of the womb. It should be done at least 2 to 3 years after you initiate your sexual activity. A pap smear detects conditions which lead to cervical cancer. You should be aware about the HPV vaccine, the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, and consult a gynaecologist to know more about it.
6. Breast health check-up:
It can be done as self-examination or can be done by your doctor.
If you find any lump please go to your doctor and get it checked.
7. Check on the immunisations:
Talk to your doctor and keep yourself updated for the immunisations.
Important vaccines are:
- Chickenpox
- MMR
- HPV vaccine
- Also, you should consider flu shots every year.
8. Don't forget your dental and eye checkups.
Don't wait for symptoms. A lot of troubles can be avoided if you do preventive health check-ups. So, be proactive. Take charge of your health.
