Do you know that STIs can affect your fertility?

Sexually transmitted infections are the type of infections that are transmitted from one person to another through sexual contact.Both men's and women's fertility can be affected by Sexual Transmitted Infections (STIs). A lot of women get tested for STIs during their pregnancy.The good news is most of the STIs are curable if diagnosed early, but some can be fatal. Here are some common STIs and how they affect your pregnancy. 

1. Chlamydia: It's common, easily treatable and you can easily prevent it by taking precautions , routine check ups and consulting with a doctor in case of any symptoms. Even though it's not a very serious infection but it can lead to miscarriage or premature delivery.

2. Gonorrhoea: If someone gets this infection during pregnancy then there is a chance of miscarriage or premature delivery. The child might be born with infected eyes.

3. HIV: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) can cause a fatal disease AIDS. All pregnant women must get tested for HIV and in case someone refuses the test and gets the virus, during pregnancy it can cause some serious health issues for the baby as the baby can also get HIV.

4. Syphilis: Like HIV syphilis is also a compulsory test. If you get affected it can be serious for the baby. It is easily treatable but if left untreated and can cause serious health issues. 

5. Herpes : Herpes is another STI, it is caused by herpes simplex virus.There are 2 kinds of herpes Type 1 and Type 2 . This virus is easily transmitted through skin to skin contact or kissing. Taking preventive measures is must to keep yourself protected from getting infected.
