"Noodles,"  “frizz ball,"  and “cactus”, are some names that curly hair people must have heard at least once in their lives. The world is hooked on seeing straight hair all the time and has assumed that is the only beauty standard. Curly hair is combed, straightened, and oiled to make it look “normal.”

It is time to give curly hair the proper care that it deserves. They need moisture and care to flourish.  Beauty standards need to be reshuffled to realize that every human has a unique hair type and that each of them is beautiful. There is no need to spend hours in salons trying to get your curls straight, that simply goes against their nature. 

Types of curls

Right! There are not one but 3 textures of curly hair: curly, wavy, and coily. Each of these varies based on porosity and shape.

  • Wavy hair, which is also the most common among the 3 can be fine or coarse and is not easily shaped into perfect curls. This type of hair can be straightened easily because it usually has high porosity. 

  • Curly hair has low porosity and is ringed and clumped together. This type of hair is usually frizzy and dry.

  • Coily hair is, as the name says. They are z-shaped coils. 

The most basic way to manage curls

Now that you know the types of curls, let us understand the most basic hair care routine that anyone can follow to manage those frizzy, coarse curls. 

First of all, start with a sulfate-free clearing shampoo to clean the scalp of dirt and oil. One should use shampoo twice to completely clear off dirt. 

Follow up with a deep conditioner, which will provide moisture to your curls. Keep it for 5-10 minutes before washing it off. It will help with frizz control. 

After this, scrunch all the excess water from your hair in an upward direction. This helps with maintaining shape and locks moisture in your curls.

This routine is for a beginner, with time, you can learn more about your hair type and move on to using products for getting perfect curls like gels and leave-in creams.
