Skin care tips for oily skin

Even if you detest the unsightly sheen, oily skin does have one advantage. It's true what you just read! Contrary to popular belief, most skincare professionals concur that oily or combo skin ages more slowly than dry skin. This is so that you may avoid fine lines and wrinkles since the oil (sebum) that your oil (sebaceous) glands secrete keeps your skin lubricated, nourished, and moisturised.

Sebum production that is out of control can make your skin seem greasy and aggravate acne. Genetics and hormones are the primary causes of oily skin. Increased androgen, a male hormone that marks the maturity of sebaceous glands, is the result of fluctuating hormone levels. Sebum production rises with sebaceous gland maturity, and the more androgens present in the body, the more sebum is expelled via the pores. This sebum accumulates on the skin's surface, making it greasy. Pimples and blackheads form when extra oil gets caught in the pores and mixes with germs, dead skin cells, and sebum.

Overwashing your face won't help if you have oily skin because it might be inherited. In reality, excessive cleaning and harsh scrubbing can dry up your skin and stimulate the production of additional oil by the sebaceous glands. Additionally, the production of sebum can be impacted by humidity and heat, certain drugs, food, and cosmetics. Here are some skincare tips to combat oily skin:

  • Cleanse on a daily basis

Use a mild soap to wash, ideally one with glycerin. Pick cleansers without oils, and you might want to use one with salicylic acid.

  • Moisturising is the key

If you have oily or mixed skin, don't assume you don't need moisturiser; choosing the appropriate moisturiser is the key to having healthy skin that appears moisturised rather than shiny.

  • Regular exfoliation

Exfoliating will assist in removing debris and dead skin cells that can accumulate on your skin and lead to flare-ups. Be gentle with your skin; as much as you would want to use a strong exfoliator to scour the oil off your face, doing so will dry up your skin.

  • Sunscreen

Don't let your aversion to excessive glare keep you from using sunscreen. For those with oily skin, sun protection is extremely critical! Going outside in the sun without wearing enough sun protection can cause skin damage, wrinkles, and pigmentation.

  • Drink plenty of water

Take in a lot of water each day. To eliminate toxins from your body and keep your skin moisturised, you should drink at least 7 to 8 glasses of water daily. Body fluid balance prevents excessive sebum and oil production.
