Things you must know about PCOS

Let's first understand what happens in PCOS. In PCOS the dominant follicle or the follicle destined to be released from the ovary in every cycle doesn’t get formed properly due to various reasons and then the remaining oocytes or the eggs fight with each other but none of them forms the dominant follicle. Ultimately, they are arranged at the periphery of the ovary which is the polycystic appearance or the classic necklace shaped pattern in PCOS. Still there is no definitive cause found for PCOS.

The theories or the causes that are thought to be responsible are:

  • Stress
  • Eating habits
  • Lack of exercise
  • Genetics

Why did our grandmas not have PCOS?

  • There was no awareness during that time.
  • Our grandmoms didn't have the same eating habits or the physical activities that we have.

Hence the symptoms or the signs might not have been so prominent in them.

Pregnancy with PCOS:

1. Visit your gynaecologist. PCOS is an anovulatory condition that means you ovulate or your egg is released irregularly or you might not ovulate at all. So, your gynaecologist will help you with a targeted approach.

2. Management of PCOS is patient-centric which means your gynaecologist will give you the treatment as per your goal.

3. Lifestyle modification

  • Exercising for at least 20 minutes per day will go a long way in helping you manage the condition.

The key message here is to talk to your doctor and get yourself assured.
