Vaginal dryness can be a sign of a variety of medical issues. It can hurt whether you're standing up, sitting down, working out, urinating (peeing), or having sex.
Dryness in the vagina can develop at any age. It is most frequent in women at or following menopause (the end of a woman's menstrual phase). Vaginal dryness can make you feel that your vagina is dry and not have proper lubrication. There are several effective vaginal dryness treatment options available.
When oestrogen hormone levels fall, many women experience vaginal dryness. This discomfort can also be caused by treatments for other illnesses. Vaginal dryness can also be caused by:
- Menopause.
- Childbirth and breastfeeding
- Pills for birth control.
- Chemotherapy and hormone therapy are examples of cancer therapies.
- Drugs such as anti-estrogen medications (used to treat uterine fibroids or endometriosis), antidepressants, and antihistamines (treating itchy eyes and runny noses).
- The ovaries are removed.
- Sjogren's syndrome
Vaginal dryness is usually not something to worry about because it mostly occurs for a short duration of time. But if this start to interfere with your daily normal life or sexual life you need to see a doctor. There are several therapy options available if you have vaginal dryness. The reason must be determined before treating this condition. Here are some vaginal dryness treatment options:
- Avoid using fragrant or harsh soaps or lotions around the vagina.
- Local oestrogens treatments
- Visiting and taking advice from a doctor
- Using vaginal lubricants and moisturisers that give short-term moisture.
There are other natural oils that may be used to treat vaginal dryness. You might experiment with natural oils like grape seed, olive, sweet almond, sunflower, or coconut. Another option is to extend the time between foreplay and intercourse. Arousal is linked to vaginal wetness. Discuss with your spouse how you might improve these sensations. Before practicing any of this ask your doctor first.
Women may be ashamed to discuss a dry vagina with their doctors. However, there are several therapy alternatives for this frequent condition. If your everyday activities, sex life, or connection with your partner are affected by vaginal dryness, speak to your doctor.
