Vaginismus is an uncontrollable spasm of the vaginal muscles that causes discomfort and makes sex difficult or impossible (dyspareunia). Vaginismus is a rare condition. It may result in excruciating physical and mental suffering.

There are genrally two types of vaginismus: primary and secondary. Primary vaginismus is a condition in which a woman's involuntary spasm of her vaginal muscles prevents her from ever engaging in penetrative sex. Because of the uncontrollable muscular spasms, secondary vaginismus happens when a woman was formerly able to have sex but is now unable to be penetrated.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, schedule an appointment with your doctor right away:

Medical experts are still unsure of the precise aetiology of vaginismus, but they do know that physical problems can also play a role in its development. It might arise from stress, obsessive thoughts about sex, sexual phobia, prior sexual trauma, or anxiety. Yeast infections and urinary tract infections can also make vaginismus discomfort worse for women.

Vaginismus can also be treated with sex therapy and counselling, particularly when there is sexual phobia or a history of sexual trauma. Patients and occasionally their partners receive sex education on how their bodies function during sexual activity during treatment and counselling sessions. Hypnosis and relaxation exercises may be used in counselling to make the patient more at ease during sexual activity. A few sessions may be necessary for counselling and treatment.

There are several factors, primarily psychological ones. Women who encounter any of the vaginismus symptoms should see a doctor right away because there are remedies for it. You may always see an expert if you have a question or worry to receive the answers you need.
