6 Foods to avoid during menopause

Here are 6 foods to avoid during menopause:

Spicy food- We all like the ' teekha Pani' in pani puri, red chutney in the vada pav, the fried chillies that come along with samosas, red hot spicy dipping with the momos. But these spicy foods can trigger sweating, flushing and other symptoms of hot flashes. Stick to food that is less spicy. You can add spice to food by using cumin, turmeric, and curry leaves.

Processed foods- We love to have processed foods like chips, cookies, cakes ,maggie and so many others. These foods are high in salt content and they are also loaded with sugars, both of which are not good for our health. They cause water retention and bloating. Try to enjoy more homemade foods that are made from organic stuff.

Fast food- Ohh! The burger, pizza , cheese loaded sandwiches, pastas, the chaats . Who doesn't like to have them? But these are one of the foods to avoid during menopause as all these fast foods are loaded with refined carbohydrates, saturated fats. They not only raise the sugar levels but also increase cholesterol levels and further increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases like angina , infarction, stroke. Moreover you are at increased risk for these diseases postmenopausal phase when the time when your protective estrogen levels are low. Stuff your refrigerator with healthy foods that you can grab if you are in a hurry. Make healthy food your convenient food rather than devouring unhealthy fast food.

Alcohol- Alcohol is not good as it increases the hot flashes and also the risk of heart diseases. Moderate drinking like 1 drink per day can be allowed, however opt for cocktails that are low in alcohol like white wine.

Caffeine- Need a cup of coffee in the morning to kickstart your day? Well caffeine in the coffe can worsen your menopausal symptoms. Studies have shown that menopausal women who consumed caffeine were more likely to have hot flashes than women who didn't consume caffeine. If you can't hold your craving you can try ginger tea, peppermint tea.

Fatty meat- Nonveg lovers may have to pay a little more attention when they go shopping for meat. Lean meat is better than fatty meat. Fatty meats include steak, bacon, pork belly, pork shoulder flap, chicken thighs. These are high in saturated fat that raise cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is the bad guy which causes blockages in blood vessels and increases the risk for heart diseases and stroke. Instead you can pick lean meat like fish, chicken breast or ground beef.
