Our journey of taking care of curls must begin with accepting them. Your curls are not a problem to be solved; they are tresses to be nurtured with a clearing shampoo, a good conditioner, and deep conditioning every 2 weeks. Every hair type is different and requires different treatments to look its best.

Your first step should be a step away from heat. Yes, you heard it right. Heat styling can damage your hair texture. You must accept your original hair texture and use the right products to improve it.

Products

Shampoo without sulfates, and you will have curls without frizz. Sulfates are those chemical evils that can strip your hair of natural oils and cause frizz. Curls need moisture to hold shape.

Moisture comes from conditioning after every shampoo wash. Curls tend to lose moisture quickly, so we need a deep conditioner to repair, restore, and replenish your hair.

Every two weeks, your hair needs deep conditioning. A hair mask can help restore damaged hair texture from heat styling or chemical treatments. These products will protect and repair your hair. We need leave-in cream and gels to keep curls in shape. Gels and creams can reduce frizz and leave your hair shiny and soft.

Manage their curls

There are some non-negotiable rules for managing your curls.

  1. Do not brush your hair after washing it. It will leave them frizzy and out of shape.

You must only brush them before oiling them or washing them.

  1. Water: Styling your hair while it is still full of water can help you keep it curly and soft.

  2. Use serums or lightweight oils to keep them free from damage from wind and humidity.

The process

When your hair is still wet after washing, you need to start using gels or creams. You have to scrunch your hair. Here, you squeeze out excess water from your hair by moving it in an upward direction and scrunching it. You can use a diffuser to further dry your hair in the correct shape or use the hair plopping method, in which you can wrap your hair up in a cotton t-shirt.

Your curly hair needs support and a nudge to stay bouncy and healthy. You will have to find your own unique routine to maintain your curls.
