Indians, especially Indian fathers, have this peculiar habit of taking bedtime tea first thing in the morning. Tea, or ‘chai’ is a thing people bond over; it can be a great conversation initiator. Usually, in Indian households, milk tea is prevalent. Milk tea can be made even more decadent using ginger, cardamom, etc. But do you think it is the best practice? We are all aware of the acidic properties of milk tea. Imagine this: your stomach lining, which contains alkaline mucus, which is present to protect our stomach from gastric juices. If first thing in the morning your stomach experiences an acidic influx, it can cause metabolic disruption. You can feel nausea because of certain compounds present in the tea.

We all love a cup of tea or coffee from time to time. Although, if taken in moderate amounts, tea can be effective in numerous ways.

Can tea help you improve heart health?

The presence of tryptophan, a nutrient that shows stress-relieving properties and can be a mood enhancer, is nothing a cup of tea can’t fix. Adding milk to tea can reduce the effects of antioxidants, which are said to improve heart health.

The American Institute for Cancer Research is researching the benefits or ill effects of tea with milk. They are trying to understand the role of tea in increasing heart health and reducing cancer risk. Tea with ginger in it can act as a great remedy for sore throats in winter.Even though milk tea is the norm in Asia, it is still unhealthy in several ways.

The downside of “just one cup of tea”

The most recent report from the Indian Council of Medical Research has advised reducing the consumption of caffeine and tea products. The report highlighted the side effects of overconsumption of tea or coffee. Caffeine can trigger our nervous system. The report also stated that caffeine can hinder iron absorption in our bodies. The tannins present in these products can bind themselves to iron in the stomach and cause deficiency, or anemia. Tea contains 30 to 65 mg of caffeine per serving; these facts can help us regulate our consumption patterns.

Habits are difficult to bend or break, but when it comes to your health, you must not be adamant about your habits. Milk tea or bed tea can be detrimental to your health. Tea can be a great source of antioxidants, and coffee, too, can help with a lot, like weight loss. What matters the most is that the amount you consume these caffeinated products in is moderate and healthy.
