5 reasons your hair is greying!

  1. Stress: almost all of us are used to being stressed now but your hair is not. Excess stress releases a chemical known as norepinephrine into the follicles which causes the pigment cells to stop working and make new pigment which turns the hair grey.
  2. Nutrient deficiency: the deficiency of important nutrients like vitamin D, folate, selenium, iron, and vitamin B12 is responsible for premature greying of hair. These nutrients are extremely essential for DNA synthesis, growth, pigmentation, and other hair properties.
  3. Oxidative stress: oxidative stress is responsible for the death of melanocytes which occurs in the DNA and ultimately leads to the greying of hair by lack of pigmentation in the follicles.
  4. Smoking: smoking is held responsible for many mishaps in the body and functioning of the systems and one of them is greying of hair. Smoking reduces the production of melanin in the body leading to the lack of blackening pigment.
  5. Autoimmune diseases: diseases like anemia, thyroid and etc are known as autoimmune diseases. Greying hair is one of the biggest symptoms of all these diseases.

How to cope with premature greying?

As advised by many experts, making lifestyle changes such as consuming enough minerals, quitting smoking, protecting the hair from the sun, and etc can help a lot.

One can also use home remedies like coconut oil, ginger juice, blackstrap molasses, amla, ghee, amaranth, onion, etc to keep the hair away from greying.
